Love A Prodigal: Be Like Jesus
As I read the story of the prodigal son, there are several stories within the story.
We can dig into the Fathers love! We see him actively waiting and watching for the son to come home. This is our picture of Christ.
We can see the prodigals story itself. He has “come to himself”! He’s realized what he’s done. Sometimes the trek back home is a doozy. Coming to yourself takes a minute often times. We usually still smell like the season we’ve just come out of and yet the Father embraces us. Smell and all….I love that Jesus loves the prodigals and is actively looking for them to come home but I rarely sit with the fact that I am a picture of his older brother.
Then you have the older son!
Oh my goodness how many times have I been the arrogant older son. I feel like “they” need to pay their dues. The slip of my religiosity and lack of love shows.
How many times have I been the “they”?
Am I the older brother or a picture of Christ? Something to sit with….perhaps if we crucified our inner older brother and welcomed the prodigal home, we would truly change the world.
