STRIVING, THRIVING OR ABIDING
Can we just be real transparent with each other? Anybody been striving lately? Anybody pursuing head long all day long in abiding in Christ?
or…are you thriving? Which to me means if you are thriving then you have to be doing some heavy duty abiding. I do believe most of us are doing tons of striving though.
We strive to be the best. We strive to look the best. Most days we are striving to just keep it all together without a plate crashing to the ground.
Can I speak a word?
You are not super man or super woman. The energy we expend to be all things to all people leaves us spent and empty. I love how frank scripture is about all this striving on our part. John says apart from the vine, which is Jesus, we can do nothing. I have striven and striven and striven until I am exhausted. There has been very little rest and very little abiding. I’m sure you can give a heart amen to that cycle in your own life from time to time.
What would we accomplish in the natural if we operated in the supernatural? Supernatural fruit comes when we choose to abide. When I abide, God produces the fruit. Can you imagine the size of the grapes that would come from our lives if we simply worried about abiding and God did the rest?
Now we are talking !!!
I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch that is in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
Pursuing and abiding in Him will get us so much further than striving to be like Him will ever be. This is a topic for another day but que a works based relationship. …
Sometimes I feel the weight of “being holy”! I have to remember God didn’t put it there! The expectation to work up holiness won’t happen in my flesh but it does happen when I abide in Him. We are to abide. God bears the fruit out in a life that is thriving as it abides.
Are you overwhelmed with the to do list? I can bet that we are more focused on the list than in the abiding part it will take to accomplish all God has given you influence over.
Often times, I find myself abiding more in culture, religious standards or abiding more in the news than I do abiding in Him…and I wonder why I have no peace. Where have you focusing your rest on? Are you abiding? When we abide rest will come naturally.
