Transforming Trials Summer Bible Week 4 Day 4

Transforming Trials is an amazing Bible study written by my good friends, Mason and Marina Shelton.

Week 4 Day 4  focuses on James 2:5-7

Mason and Marina’s launching pad statement: Yesterday, we discussed the evil tendency to favor the socially and economically affluent in the church. Why is this so bad?  God chooses the poor.  This is our focus for today.  We tend to choose the more affluent and yet that looks nothing like Christ.  Just sit with that?  From His choice as His earthly mother to the motley crew He chose as His disciples. We can give example after example that Jesus chooses differently than our flesh would.  I see this more profoundly when I look in the mirror!

God chooses the poor. I wanted to type that again.  The poor tend to turn to Jesus much quicker than the rich! They know they are lacking. The rich have indeed have “need of nothing”. Those who are of poor status realize the state of their life. It is ever before them. I could learn from those who see themselves as “poor” without Christ.

A  few take-away “one liners”  I see from Mason and Marina for Week 4 day 4 are listed below:

“Why is it hard for rich people to surrender to God? It’s not because riches  themselves are inherently evil. Rather, it’s because one’s disposition toward things of God can be severely altered by the alluring promise of security found in their wealth.”

“One cannot properly grasp the goodness and glory of Go when the idol of wealth is sitting on the throng of their heart. It’s a heart issue.”
