Transforming Trials is an amazing Bible study written by my good friends, Mason and Marina Shelton. I can’t wait to share them with you.
Week 3 Day 2 focuses on James 3:1-6
Marina and Mason’s launching pad statement for today is: Yesterday, James showed us that we must have a proper understanding of how to listen to God’s word before we can think about how we use our own words!
The need for our tongue to be tamed is nothing knew to us yet we continue to wield it in the most unhealthy ways. We know scripture tells us our tongue is a fire! And that our tongue “sets forests” ablaze. Yet we glaze right past this passage. This is a sin of the church and most profoundly my own. Our tongue set the course of life! James chapter three verse six is bold about this very fact. What we speak matters! Our tongue is literally the “tattle tale” of our hearts!
Some take-away “one liners” I see from Mason and Marina for Week 2 day 5 are listed below:
-But what happens when words become weapons?
-Our words are powerful and can steer the direction of our entire bodies.
-Our words can serve as a reflection of what we think about who we are. Trials reveal this.
Quick tongued, plugged ears and angry hearts are sure fire indicators of a Christian who has some work to do.-Marni
