Transforming Trials

Week 2 Day 3

Transforming Trials is an amazing Bible study written by my good friends, Mason and Marina Shelton. I can’t wait to share them with you.

Week 2  Day 3  focuses on James 2: 14-19

Are there areas in our lives that aren’t peaceable?  What about gentle?  Anybody deal with feeling like a hypocrite from time to time?  Anybody have any quarrels or conflicts around you? This is the day! This one stings!   James pulls no strings with us today!

Marina and Mason’s launching pad statement for today is: This week, James has showed us that when we meditate  on the Word of God and do what it says, we begin to act like Christ. Today, James shows us how to think about a person when their actions are not representative of Christ.

Faith and works can be a complicated thing! We are saved by faith alone in Christ alone yet  faith without works is dead!  Clearly and most easily spoken: faith that doesn’t present itself with works is a dead faith. It is not alive.  I love verse nineteen. It tells us even demons believe. They have faith but not the deeds to go with it. They would obviously have “dead faith”.  Faith presents itself with deeds of an alive faith.

Some take-away “one liners”  I see  from Mason and Marina for Week 2 day 3  are listed below:

-This faith is a whole hearted, whole body, whole person trust and surrender to Jesus to such a degree that order all aspects of our lives according to this truth.

-Even as Christians, we can slip into trusting in our own performances to satisfy the wrath of God, though we know this is futile. But saving faith-authentic faith, true dependency, actual trust-means that we rely on the performance of another, the Son of God. We place our faith exclusively in Jesus and to pay the penalty for sin that we ow and to give us his perfect righteousness.
