Transforming Trials
Week 2 Day 2
Transforming Trials is an amazing Bible study written by my good friends, Mason and Marina Shelton. I can’t wait to share them with you.
Week 2 Day 2 focuses on James 1:26-27
Anybody have issues with their tongue? Do you wish you had a muzzle sometime? I do! There are some days I can’t stuff words back in my mouth fast enough! I think each of us wants to be Godly! James uses the world religious! Our “religion” is worthless if we can’t bridle our own tongue! He even goes a step further to focus in on pure religion. It doesn’t look quite like the “americanized” religion we experience today does. James says pure religion involves visiting orphans and widows.
Marina and Mason’s launching pad statement for today is: What are some examples of “doing the word” as we discussed yesterday?
Gods view again, looks much differently than ours. Our idea of holiness is not God’s.
Some take-away “one liners” I see from Mason and Marina for Week 1 day 3 are listed below:
-At the same time, however, we must acknowledge that God accepts, anticipates- and actually expects- those who are growing deeper and purer faith in Christ to watch their mouths, watch for needs of those around them, and watch their conduct.
-As Christians we are chiefly concerned about people’s need to be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ and we are concerned about people’s earthly needs, too.
-In other words, James says that you can call the bluff of someone who claims to be religious, but fails to truly know God, by recognizing their haphazard words.
How does your pure heart push you into action to those around you? Tough conversations today my friend! It doesn’t look like what we have made it look like. God’s view is very different.
